Born on October 23, 1964 in San Francisco, California
Began playing the bass guitar at the age of 8
Grew up in a musical family; his mother was a classical pianist and his father was a jazz drummer
Began performing professionally in his teenage years, playing with a variety of bands in the San Francisco Bay area

Career with Metallica

Joined Metallica as the bassist in 2003, replacing Jason Newsted
Participated in the band's albums "Death Magnetic," "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct", "S&M2" and "72 Seasons"
Contributed to the band's success and popularity in the heavy metal genre
